　　The Beidou Navigation System is an important infrastructure for China's satellite navigation industry, aiming to break the monopoly of the satellite positioning and navigation application market dominated by the US GPS. 　　The Beidou Navigation System has successfully launched five geostationary satellites, which can cover China and neighboring regions. According to the plan, China will complete another 30 non-stationary orbit satellites by 2012, and 35 satellites will together form a network with global coverage.

　　The project was originally commissioned by the General Armament Department and has so far been mostly used for exploration or military purposes. But Liu Yifei said early mass production for civilian use is the ultimate goal.
