GPS (Global Position System), also known as the "Global Positioning System", is a navigation, timing, and positioning system developed in the United States. It consists of aerial satellites, ground tracking and monitoring stations, ground satellite data injection stations, ground data processing centers, and data communication networks. Users only need to purchase a GPS receiver to enjoy free navigation, timing, and positioning services.

  1. GPS Global Satellite Positioning System

The reason why the car GPS positioning system can locate and navigate is because each GPS receiver can simultaneously receive space orbit information sent by at least four GPS satellites at any time and anywhere on Earth. The receiver can determine the position of each satellite by calculating its positioning information, providing high-precision three-dimensional (longitude, latitude, altitude) positioning, navigation, and timing systems.. For a given location, the GPS receiver knows which satellites are nearby at that time because it constantly receives update signals from satellites.

  2. Parallel channels for GPS devices

Some consumer GPS devices have 2-5 parallel channels to receive satellite signals. Because a maximum of 12 satellites may be visible (with an average of 8), this means that the GPS receiver must access each satellite in order to obtain information about each satellite.

Most GPS receivers on the market are of the 12 parallel channel type, which allows them to continuously track the information of each satellite. The advantages of 12 channel receivers include fast cold start and initialization of satellite information, and they can have better reception performance in forest areas. Generally, a 12 channel receiver does not require an external antenna, unless you are in a closed space, such as a cabin or carriage.

  3. Positioning time

This refers to the time it takes for your GPS receiver to determine its current position when you restart it. For a 12 channel receiver, if you are near the last positioning position, the positioning time during cold start is generally 3-5 minutes, and during hot start is 15-30 seconds. For a 2 channel receiver, the positioning time during cold start is mostly more than 15 minutes, and during hot start is 2-5 minutes.
