Why is there no signal from the GPS system indoors? So it's important to
understand the penetration ability of GPS microwave signals. Here are some
experiments conducted by friends:
1) All metal entities will completely block the GPS signal. Note that car
films containing metal coatings also have a blocking effect on GPS.
2) Water bodies (liquid) with a thickness of over 1 centimeter will
completely attenuate GPS signals to become unusable.
3) Glass and plastic have a slight attenuation of GPS signals, so you can
keep the GPS in your clothes pocket, under the car windshield, or insert it into
a protective cover around your waist.
4) However, heavy non-metallic objects can completely block the signal, and
a few centimeters of wood can completely block the GPS signal.
5) The microwave signal wavelength of 1575.42MHz is 19 centimeters, so
theoretically it can pass through metal mesh with an aperture (diameter) greater
than 19 centimeters, or ordinary metal frame structures, such as transmission
towers.
This way, you can understand why the indoor GPS system is out of
signal!
