The monitored terminal, usually a smartphone with a GPS module, can display the current GPS coordinates on the phone map. The monitored terminal interacts with the server through wireless broadband, and can transmit the GPS coordinates, images, geometric shapes, attributes and other information collected by the monitored terminal to the server. It can also obtain similar information from the server, thus achieving information exchange anytime and anywhere.

　　The monitoring end accesses the server through wired or wireless networks to obtain data from the monitored end, allowing the server to issue information or instructions to the monitored end. The monitoring end can be a desktop GIS, WEBGIS, mobile GIS, or even other forms of information platform.

　　Whether it is the monitored end or the monitoring end, compared to the server, they are both clients, and there are usually two modes of interaction between the client and the server:

　　1. Socket communication requires writing a socket server program and a socket client program separately on the server client, defining the content format of the transmitted information. The advantages of this mode are high communication efficiency, always online, and easy to achieve server information release. The disadvantages are poor universality and complexity;

　　2. Http communication. The server publishes services in the form of WEB services, and the client obtains information from the server in the form of Http requests, and can upload information to the server. This mode has the advantages of Thin client, good versatility, strong scalability, and conforms to the SOA architecture. The disadvantage is the request response mode, which is not real-time online, stateless, and difficult to realize the function of the server to actively release information.

　　The specific choice of interaction method depends on the specific project requirements. However, the current mainstream method is more inclined towards HTTP communication, as this method is more universal and convenient for system expansion, maintenance, and integration.

　　In industry applications, mobile GIS usually needs to include content such as mobile MIS and mobile OA to achieve the integration of enterprise information. The industries applied include: transportation, public security, fire protection, electricity, urban management, logistics, land, surveying and mapping, environmental protection, communication forestry, agriculture, ocean, etc.
